EMMA ALMQUIST

Focus Areas
Relationships and systemic change: Healthy relationships are important to have a happy and fulfilling life. Our focus will be to express your thoughts and feelings safely and effectively in relationships so that you feel more connected, seen and heard. I find working with couples to be some of the most challenging and meaningful work in my practice. I consider it an honor and privilege to support people committed to improving themselves and their relationships.

High School, College & Young Adults: I work with a variety of presenting concerns, including self esteem, trauma, anxiety, and depression. I utilize Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and experiential interventions with adolescents and young adults.
Trauma: I am passionate about working with trauma as many of us have experienced traumas that impact our ability to move forward, heal and grow. I utilize somatic based interventions and am trained in EMDR which allows clients to prioritize healing by creating a renewed sense of safety and groundedness in their bodies. I believe agency and choice are incredibly important in trauma work and collaborate with clients to find a pace and style of treatment that works best for their unique goals and needs.
Other Areas of Interest: LGBTQ+ support, grief and loss, life transitions, religious trauma and faith deconstruction

Approach
I enjoy facilitating supportive environments for clients to explore their social identities and lived experiences without judgment. I utilize a person centered approach to therapy that is collaborative, warm and genuine. I collaborate with clients to help them identify goals for therapy. My counseling approach is eclectic, shaped by many evidenced based approaches and theories that allow us to explore emotions, build insight and increase self-compassion.
I utilize a trauma-informed lens and integrate modalities such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems and Solution Focused Therapy with individual clients. I use therapeutic interventions in session to help clients connect more presently with their bodies. I also specialize in working with couples and utilize a blend of Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Gottman Therapy Method to help couples improve their communication skills, increase intimacy and learn how to better navigate conflict in their relationships. I enjoy creating a safe and supportive space for couples to create a more secure emotional bond by exploring underlying emotions and attachment needs in their relationships.
Qualifications
I bring a unique approach to therapy by taking a systemic lens in all of my work with clients. I started my career in higher education supporting college students and am passionate about working with emerging adults. I earned a Master’s Degree in College Counseling & Student Development and my work with college students sparked an interest in wanting to develop more skills and knowledge to support young adults. I continued my education and earned my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Whitworth University. I enjoy working with emerging adult individuals, couples and individual adults across the lifespan.
Personal Information
I believe that rest and play are essential for our well-being. In my free time I enjoy hiking, walking my goldendoodle, exploring new parks, reading books, listening to music, puzzles and traveling with friends and family. I enjoy a cheesy period piece drama to rest and relax after a long day (especially if set in the English countryside). I am considered a coffee snob and am always looking to try a new single origin brew.
