My Focus Areas

Relationships: All human moments are experienced within a system; they have a relationship to one another. You have a relationship with your family, your friends, your coworkers, your community, your planet, your universe. All of these relationship are directly impacted by your relationship with yourself. We will start with you and work our way out to ensure personal and systemic wellness.

Trauma: Trauma can take many forms. Any life moment that you experience as scary, trapping, panic-y, gut wrenching, frozen, etc. can be held in the body and mind as trauma. The impact of these past experiences have a ripple effect on your future self and relationships. I am an EMDRIA certified therapist. Together with body/mind, EMDR, brainspotting and other trauma healing treatments, we will explore, reprocess and find peace and security.

Therapists: Therapists need a therapist too! It’s hard to find a therapist out there that isn’t connected to your sphere. As a therapist, you can “therapist” yourself (and your loved ones) all day long.  But when it comes down to it, it’s helpful to have support from exploration to application. I get it – I also get that you get it. Together, we will figure it out and do something with it.

Approach

“We are all just walking each other home.” – Ram Das

We are each on a unique journey through this life. I believe that therapy is a shared process where I am here to walk alongside you, just as you are part of my journey. You are the expert of your life, your relationships, and your future, and I honor that truth deeply. I aim to provide a safe, open, and affirming space for you to explore your challenges and growth.

With advanced training in systems theories, EMDR, Brainspotting, OCD (ERP & I-CBT), Ketamine Assisted Therapy, animal-assisted therapy, and nature-based interventions, I have a strong foundation to help you navigate your healing process. I also offer equine-assisted therapy sessions in collaboration with the equine specialists at In Step with Horses, providing a unique and dynamic way for you to deepen your self-awareness and growth.

In our work together, I will offer a space that is both warm and directive—supportive when needed, yet challenging when necessary. My goal is to create an environment where you feel empowered to craft your path toward becoming a happy, whole version of yourself.

Qualifications

Along my counseling journey, I have had the privilege of working in a wide range of mental health settings, including community mental health, schools, psychiatric hospital units, LGBT+ advocacy groups, and private practice. These diverse experiences have shaped my understanding, knowledge, and empathy. I carry the lessons from each setting into every session. In addition to my extensive clinical background, I completed both my Master’s and PhD at the University of Akron in Counselor Education, specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy. This academic foundation, paired with my clinical experience, enables me to provide a well-rounded, effective approach to therapy.

I also find great fulfillment in teaching as an adjunct professor, presenting continuing education trainings for fellow counselors, supervising provisionally licensed clinicians, and consulting with other private practice owners. In addition, I provide consultation for EMDRIA certification, sharing my expertise with those pursuing advanced therapeutic training.

My research is centered on integrating the therapeutic power of movement, nature, and animals into therapeutic practices for individuals and couples. I hold specialized training in a range of therapeutic modalities, including EMDR, Brainspotting, OCD – Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), Ketamine Assisted Thearpy (KAP), expressive arts, animal-assisted therapy, and eco-therapy. These approaches inform my holistic, integrative therapy style, designed to meet each individual where they are on their journey and help them find healing in mind, body, and spirit.

Personal Information

Hello! Please, call me Teresa. I own The Relationship Center and truly enjoy all the successes, challenges and connections that counseling offers. Weekdays, you can find me at the office seeing clients, feeding the office wildlife and managing all the things. I aim for a 4 day work week, because, well, mental health matters, right?

Weekends, between general adulting activities, I intentionally carve out time for the moments that fill my cup.  Hot yoga, hiking and bass fishing with my kiddo are my go tos. The creatures that get me moving every day are my husband, son and our pack: 3 dogs, Sunny, Roo & Nutmeg, 4 cats, Tiger, Pluto, Obie & Jupiter, and rabbit, Coconut.

I care about the planet, the animals and the humans. I watch too much reality TV. I am a Capricorn, Elder Millennial and an ENTP. My favorite color is yellow because it lets the sun shine in.

It’s nice to meet you.
